The Hold Steady almost killed me.

Craig Finn I went to see The Hold Steady play in Charleston last night at a place called The Pour House. What should have been an incredible night wound up being pretty miserable because the venue didn’t have air conditioning.

The heat and humidity was stifling to the point of distraction, and my enjoyment of what seemed like a great show from one of my favorite bands was severely lessened.

It was my first time seeing The Hold Steady, and I was very impressed with their performance and setlist. Craig Finn is an excellent showman, and the crowd was as excited as the heat allowed. Tug was in the front row, and he said that after the first few songs, even the die-hards in his midst started to flag from the sauna.

On a positive note (jam!), they played my two favorite songs: Massive Nights and Stuck Between Stations. And thankfully I didn’t pass out. Silver linings!
