sweet relief
So I’ve been fighting a sinus infection for something like a month now. I pretty much dovetailed my allergy season straight into this never-ending sinus infection. I feel like I’ve tried everything.
I took a two-week course of anti-biotics which seemed to help for a minute. But three days later, the sniffle came back.
That brings me to yesterday when a co-worker suggested I try a neti pot. I realize that Oprah has been on about these for some months now, but despite my chronic sinus problems, I’d never tried one. So I head to Walgreens after work and buy one. Mine looks much more clinical than the one I have pictured. It’s this ugly, blue plastic instead of ceramic. But it was the only one they had.
The deal is you fill up the pot with a warm, salty solution and then stick the spout up your nose while tilting your head so the water goes in one nostril and out the other. “Nasal irrigation” is what they call it. I expected it to feel like when you get water up your nose in a swimming pool: stinging, burning sensation. While there is a little of that, it mostly just feels like you have a runny nose.
I used it last night and again this morning, and I feel better than I have all week. I hope it’s the start of recovery rather than a temporary respit. I have to sing this weekend, and I need my voice back!
