Cake - Mexico

When my relationships end, I seem to gravitate toward the strangest records. Case in point: tonight I was digging through my cds (remember those?), looking for something else, and I found Cake’s Prolonging the Magic.

For some reason in 2001, that was my post-break up comfort cd. And Mexico was the song I’d find myself weeping to while I drove around (I’m a notorious driver & cryer.).

Weird, right? Cake? Well, I have stranger and more embarrassing post-break up albums to share at some point. Stay tuned!

Edit: listening to this tender break-up song and John McCrea is shouting his trademark “Oh no! All right!” in the background between verses. Why would he think that’s a good idea?!? It’s insane! The arrangement of the song is so good otherwise with the horns and the steel guitar. Such a strange decision to include those random shouts.
